job in the US
job in the US:There is no better moment to be a member of the labor force in the United States than right now, but workers in different cities are benefiting more than others.
According to a report that was released on Monday (January 8), the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) found that the cities of Jacksonville, Florida, Raleigh, North Carolina, and Las Vegas, Nevada experienced the most significant positive changes in employment from November 2022 through 2023. These cities are considered to be among the larger metropolitan areas that have a population of at least one million people.
The cities of Dallas, Texas, Birmingham, Alabama, and Miami, Florida all had significant increases in employment. In Quartz’s study, only cities that saw changes in employment that were statistically significant were taken into consideration.
Lawrence, Kansas (9.7%), Charleston, South Carolina (5.9%), and Salinas, California (4.5%) were the metropolitan areas with the highest employment growth rates (pdf) among cities with a population of less than one million people.
Jobs are being created at a rapid pace in cities.
Jacksonville, Florida: It appears that things are continuing to look particularly promising in this region of the Sunshine State in comparison to the rest of the country.
Furthermore, the city’s job market continues to outperform the rest of Florida, and the city’s unemployment rate is about one full percentage point lower than the national unemployment rate in the country.
Considering the city’s hospitals, universities, colleges, and competitive school system, it should come as no surprise that the education and health services sector had the most rapid growth in employment opportunities. In the year 2023, the United States News and World Report selected Jacksonville as one of the top 25 greatest areas for young professionals to reside.
Nevada’s Las Vegas: Sin City had an increase in employment even though the state’s unemployment rate remained the highest in the country. The subject of whether or not Las Vegas truly has a thriving employment market is up for discussion;
nonetheless, there is little doubt that the city’s labor force is diversifying, with workers progressively joining higher-paid areas. The city’s manufacturing sector, as well as the professional and business services sector, had the greatest increases in employment during November.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) had its Summer League in Las Vegas, and the National Football League (NFL) Super Bowl will be held in the city in February. Vegas has also been a preferred destination for sports leagues in recent years. Some people in the area even go so far as to refer to it as the “Sports Capital of the World.”
Even though the city’s unemployment rate is still somewhat high at 5.1%, this is not a terrible thing when one considers that a rate of 5% or below is regarded as “full employment.”
Raleigh, North Carolina: In addition to Durham and Chapel Hill, Raleigh is one of the three cities that make up the “Research Triangle,” which is a technology cluster that is sometimes referred to as the Silicon Valley of the East Coast. US News ranked Raleigh as the third-best city in the country to live in,
while WalletHub ranked it as one of the best places to work. ProPharma, a research consulting organization, and Bandwidth, a communications company, have both recently relocated their headquarters to that area. Additionally,
Apple is planning to create its primary East Coast campus near the Research Triangle. Additionally noteworthy was the acquisition of Silicon Valley Bank by Raleigh-based First Citizens Bank earlier this year, which resulted in the shares of the former bank increasing by about 80 percent in 2023 during that same year.
As of November, the leisure and hospitality industry in Raleigh saw the highest year-over-year growth.
